The article describes the environmental problems of modern development of road transport, in the conditions of the existing road transport infrastructure. Analysis of traffic situations showed a robust increase in the number of vehicles, which are steadily increasing the amount of the annual environmental damage. The experience of many developing countries has shown the need to address the problems of environmental safety of motor vehicles, including economic methods.
