  • Thermal-hydraulic efficiency of porous media in air and water flow with symmetric and asymmetric pulsations

Porous media can be used as heat transfer intensifiers in the petrochemical, refrigeration, food, energy, and other industries. In this paper, heat transfer in a porous medium with a pulsating flow is studied numerically. The simulation was carried out in the AnsysFluent software product. The porous medium was represented as a two-dimensional channel with square tubes. The working medium was air and water. The heat transfer and hydraulic resistance of a porous medium in a pulsating flow are determined for different porosity and fiber diameter depending on the Reynolds number, Prandtl number, frequency and amplitude of pulsations. It is shown that with an increase in the intensity of pulsations, an increase in heat transfer occurs. Heat transfer intensification essentially depends on regime and geometrical parameters. Several empirical correlation are proposed for calculating heat transfer and the degree of heat transfer intensification for symmetric and asymmetric flow pulsations. The thermal-hydraulic efficiency is determined for the same Reynolds numbers and powers for pumping the heat carrier in a porous medium with symmetric and asymmetric flow pulsations.

  • The layout of the combined machine based on the KamAZ vehicle

The construction of winter roads in the Russian Federation is determined by the geographical location and climatic features. Most of the territories are located in unfavorable climatic zones, and there are also settlements, accessibility to which can be realized by means of temporary roads. The process of erecting such engineering structures is expensive and labor-intensive. In order to reduce costs, it is necessary to modernize technologies and ground transport and technological facilities. The proposed combined machine based on the KamAZ vehicle is a technical solution that allows to reduce the time and cost of building winter roads. The article considers the configuration of components and assemblies of a modernized machine for the construction of winter roads based on KamAZ, as well as a calculation of the power balance.

  • Design and fabrication of a cost-effective knee prosthesis

In order for a person with an amputated limb to regain motor activity, should be created fitting lower limb prosthesis and able to movement. The goal of this research is to improve a passive prosthesis depending on microcontroller-unit, transfemoral prosthesis that can reach to the desired of rotational speed for functional use while remaining low-cost. The improvement of this design focuses on creating a new knee joint mechanism using a DC motor pre-existing, the foot, and the socket can get from the previous model. This entails simulating normal limb function while also enhancing the knee prosthesis range motion. the specific requirements that must be realize in this design, such as the knee joint new model ability to flex up to 90 degrees and be strong enough to support the weight of the amputee's body.

  • Pressure measurement and analysis of an ankle orthosis for a person with an ankle fracture

The study examines the manufacturing process of two types of ankle-foot orthoses (AFO): an adjustable joint and a modified static joint. Polypropylene and steel are used in manufacturing. Vacuum forming is used in the manufacturing process. The ankle orthosis test is performed on a patient with an ankle fracture as a result of a sports injury. The treadmill and F-Socket are used in the second step of the study for gait analysis. In addition, walking cycle results including: ground reaction force (GRF), center of pressure, pressure distribution, stride length, and footprint analysis were used to demonstrate a significant difference between healthy subjects and subjects with pathology who wore AFO. Interference, force, and pressure between feet with AFO contact areas were measured for all subjects.

  • Scientific and technical substantiation of the mine water quality control system

The article presents the results of research work that provides a correct solution to the problem of assessing the quality of drainage water that is formed in the process of coal mining. In the context of this problem, the following main tasks have been solved: - assessment and ranking of technogenic factors of impact on the hydrosphere of the region; - selection of the main parameters of the environment for the development of research methods; - formation of models to substantiate the quality control of drainage waters. The authors of the article have developed scientific and technical solutions that represent an objective basis for interpreting research materials on the territory of a coal-mining region. The article presents the main results of the system analysis of experimental and theoretical studies. In particular, the authors show that the main types of models should be models of objects - sources of pollution, models of technogenic impacts and a model of a natural and technical system.

  • On the issue of creating a universal taxation instrument

The development of technical devices in almost all industries is aimed at creating universal devices that allow performing several operations. The forest industry is no exception. The creation of a taxation tool that provides the ability to perform several measuring operations, which is the goal of the work, will increase the efficiency of the taxator while reducing the physical load on him due to the need to have fewer measuring instruments with him. All this indicates the relevance of this work. To achieve this goal, a number of tasks were solved in the course of the work, the main of which were: analysis of known designs of taxation instruments, synthesis of new technical solutions for their unification, patenting of a new technical solution. The use of system analysis made it possible to achieve the set goal, to propose a new patentable solution for a taxation device that combines the functions of an altimeter and a full gauge. The approach described in the paper to the creation of new designs of universal taxation devices can be used in teaching engineering creativity to students.
